The Big News

It's been awhile since we did any blogging, and for good reason. Things have been crazy around here! And we've been in limbo about our future, so I just kept holding out on a blog post thinking that when we actually knew what we'd be doing, I'd finally make a post.

Well, that time has finally arrived. After months of waiting and wondering, pursuing various options and waiting and wondering some more...

We are moving! To Virginia. Chantilly, to be precise. If you don't know much about Virginia and its cities (I don't...I've never been there, and will make my first "visit" when I get on the plane to move there) Chantilly is a suburb of Washington, D.C.--about 20 miles from D.C. itself. We aren't going to be there permanently--this is a temporary relocation for Brian's work. He's not changing jobs, but rather he's accepted a rotation position with the company he works for. We'll be in Virginia for about a year, after which we plan to come back to California and...well, who knows? We'll see how things stand in a year. We hope to be able to buy a home at that point, but only time will tell.

So, the insanity is about to ensue! The plan is for Brian to finish work here by the end of October, and we will probably be moving the first week in November. That gives us about six weeks to figure it all out and get out of here! I've been asked how I feel about it, and the answer is, I have very mixed feelings. I love El Segundo. We've been here for 4 1/2 years. I feel settled here, we have great friends and are happy. But we also feel very good about this opportunity. It's exciting in many ways. I've visited the East Coast a few times, but never thought I'd live there. This gives us the chance to experience something completely new without having to commit to permanently living so far away from family. I've never been to Washington D.C. or anywhere in the vicinity, so I'm excited to explore all it has to offer and for our family to have an opportunity to learn about so much of our nation's history there. I do dread change in many ways...it's hard to have to start all over, but we can do it! And we're excited.

Anyway, it feels good to finally be able to make the "announcement" and to move forward. Limbo isn't my favorite place to be, so I'm glad it's over. Onward and upward, here we go!

I can't believe you did not mention how excited you are to be close to your best friends. I mean I know my sister-in-law is going to try and steal you away as there new friends and all but don't forget about us! We are so happy you are going to be closer. Good luck with moving and we'll see you soon : )

I'm so excited for you! Change really does stink, and is scary, but what a great opportunity. I'm glad things are finally figured out and you're not still having to stew and wonder about things. And I'm glad I get to see you before you move! Depending on when you leave and when I pop out baby, I want to come to your GNO/going away party! Maybe Damon and I will have to celebrate our 10th anniversary a couple months early so we can come visit you while you're still in the DC area.

WHAT!!! That's too far away! We are really excited for you guys to have this adventure. I told Josh it would be fun to move away like that if I knew it wasn't permanent. Good Luck with everything you have going. Keep us informed of all your new info so we don't lose track of you. Love you guys!

congrats... it is nice knowing it is only a year so you if you don't like it (and the hummidity) you know how long you will be there. I wish the AF told us how long we would be at a location. I thought there was other big news too but maybe I mixed you up with someone else? Or was that you?hmmm. I guess I will wait for another post and see ;) Good luck with the move, moving stinks.

Wow, Karene, congrats! I wondered what happened to you guys, so it's good to know that it was only good things! What a big decision, though. That's really exciting, though I feel the same about change. Do you really think it will only be a year out there and that you'll really return to California after? I hope so! I guess this means that we probably won't get to get together again before you go, but hopefully we'll still live here when you get back! You will love DC and all there is to do there. So many free things for you and your kids to go do during the day! I'm very excited for you and good luck with the move and everything!

Congrats on the change. I agree - it's difficult, but worth the experience. Love you and am so happy to hear that things are going well. -Lou

Oh no! We'll miss you! We'll have to get together for another dinner before you guys leave.

Good luck, and let us know if you need any help moving!

That is awesome, I'm jealous. I would love to live on the East Coast for a short time to experience it but not have to live there forever. And think of all the sight seeing opportunites you'll have!! That is so exciting. Better to do it now while the kids aren't in school, too. Good luck with everything.

speaking of kids being in school, where will you have Cole start kindergarten?

Wow! Sounds exciting. I've never lived outside of Utah, so it really would be neat to have that experience! Good luck with everything.
