Most parents will vouch for the fact that when there's a baby in the house, a disproportionate amount of time is spent trying to figure out how to get the little bundle of joy to sleep. We've been experimenting with different options for Julia and thought we'd share:
Clever, but not effective:
Effective:
Okay, so the first picture actually wasn't one of our attempts to get her to sleep. That is what happens when you buy head squishers on clearance at Babies R Us, wondering why they're being cleared out. Now we know. They just don't stay put!!
Regarding the second picture, well, I've just gotta say that aside from the obvious difference of gender, Julia is a very different baby than the boys were. Both of the boys loved to be swaddled and we had to wean them from swaddling when they were 6 or 8 months old. I thought Julia loved to be swaddled too...in fact, I'd say she did until a few weeks ago. But recently we've discovered that if we swaddle her really loosely, so she can get her fingers to her mouth, VOILA! She will suck on those fingers and we don't have to go stick her binky back in her mouth a hundred times. Ah, beautiful day! I know that someday down the road I may wish she didn't suck her fingers, but after all we've been through with her, I am thrilled. She has been sleeping so much better since we made this discovery. And now I'm feeling just a little bad about swaddling her the last while, effectively barring her from using this self-soothing technique. Oh, well. Here's hoping we're all going to start getting more sleep around here!

Yay! If only Baby G would find a similar way to sooth himself -- I'm not sure I even slept last night. Is it teething? Is it hunger? Is it that he's too hot/cold? Shouldn't I be a pro at this by now?
O.K.- I am seriously laughing right now because I have been trying for weeks to get Greyson to quite sucking his fist and worse- his thumb! Two of my other girls were finger suckers to sleep and it is hard to get them to stop- they have to wear gloves or socks on their hands for a couple of weeks.
Anyway- so funny- I would LOVE it if Grey would take a binky but he won't:) But he sure does sleep good with that thumb in his mouth:)
LOL. I have nothing to say about the finger sucking thing only because I know what you've been going through the past few months with her and I know how sleep deprived you've been. So I totally get how you're at the point now that you'll do whatever works. Hooray that you found something! And there are some major benefits of the fingers/thumb over the pacifiers (mainly that baby always knows where they are and can't drop/throw them over the side of the crib). But when you need some weaning ideas, let me know. Because a certain 6 year old in our house has been dealing with quitting for 10 months now (and it's been a looooooong road).
She looks so precious here.
Oh my GOSH Karene! She's adorable! I know it's been a while since I've blog surfed, but tonight seems to be the night.
Congratulations on having a little girl! I wish you and your cute family all the best.
And I miss you tonz girl! xxxx
