You may be wondering how, as a parent of two young children, I have so much time to write on my blog today. Well, I just have to say that I have one fantastic husband! Brian took Cole and Weston to Las Vegas this weekend to visit his sister, Angie--and I have had two entire days all to myself! THANKS HONEY!! It has been such a therapeutic time for me. I love my kids more than anything, but I've been needing a break and this has just been perfect. You may wonder how I have been spending my time, and you may laugh when you find out. I spent seven hours cleaning my house yesterday. That's right, SEVEN hours. And I loved it. I think it just goes to show how much has changed since I became a parent almost three years ago. I never realized before then how nice it was to just be able to do what you need to do without interruption, and how quickly the house gets dirty after you clean it with kids around. Anyway, it felt AWESOME to deep clean the house. Things are organized and shiny and they're staying that way, at least for the time being! I even vacuumed the couches and I haven't sat on them since, because they still have the vacuum marks on them that make them look so nice...I know, I'm crazy.
Anyway, then this morning I ran a 5K. This was actually the reason that I stayed here instead of going with my family to Las Vegas. My running buddy, Jamie, and I decided to take on this 5K because it's a fund raiser for the schools here, and it was a challenge for us because El Segundo is a VERY hilly town, and we usually run on the beach, where it's very flat. So we spent the last four Saturdays running the 5K course in preparation for the run today. I am pleased to report that we beat our personal record...we finished in 33 minutes and 21 seconds...and we ran up every hill. We didn't stop to walk even once. I ran my first 5K a year and a half ago and finished in over 38 minutes (and that was a flat course!) so I was pretty proud of myself. Afterwards I treated myself to a pedicure.
So, it's been a nice weekend. Tomorrow I'm meeting up with Brian and the boys in Alta Loma (about an hour east of here, on the other side of L.A.) to go to our friends' Jen and Johnny's baby blessing. And then we will return to life as normal. I miss my boys, but it sure has been a therapeutic weekend!

Wow, that's sooooo awesome that you got some time off!
And particularly commendable that you did so well on the 5K!!! Especially on a hilly course like the one you described! KUDOS to ya!!
Good for you, Karene! You deserve it! I hope you had a great weekend.
So nice...your Dad did that a couple of times for me...it made the world of difference in how I felt about being a mother. Brian--keep up the good work!!
I'm so proud of you for your 5K run! Keep it up!
I'm jealous! Congrats on the 5K, you've become quite the runner!
