It pretty much stinks.
We are a bit depressed around here today because we had to say goodbye to some really good friends of ours last night. So, I hereby dedicate this blog entry to our great friends and game-night rivals, Kirk and Jamie, otherwise known as Team Kirmie.
We knew we were meant to be friends when they moved into the ward a couple of years ago and we learned that not only were Jamie and I assigned as visiting teaching companions, but Kirk and Brian were home teaching companions as well. What are the chances?? As if that wasn't enough, we also discovered that we shared our anniversary...we both got married on August 2, 2003. Pretty darn cool, if you ask me.
Anyway, we invited them over for Family Home Evening one Monday night, and they generously offered to provide the lesson. Kirk, always the overachiever, supplied an object lesson that somehow involved putting a light bulb in water and putting it in the microwave to make it light up (kids: don't try this at home). We were duly impressed, and had such a great time playing board games with them that night that we decided to invite them over again, and again, and...well, you get the idea. The microwaveable light bulb became the trophy for our game nights, and a great friendship was born.
We added the trophy holder just a few months ago when Brian achieved his lifetime goal of winning a watermelon-eating contest at an Elders' Quorum party. Way to go, sweetie! We were delighted to discover what an ideal light bulb holder it made.
In any case, you can't tell by looking at this picture, but after two years and about 38 game nights, we ended at a tie...19 games apiece.
Here's our photo memory slideshow of the Carpenters...we wish you well at Harvard, and don't forget about your humble friends in El Segundo!!

Wow! I'd be pretty bummed too. What a cool tradition. I love the picture of the trophy, and it's nice to see our legacy on there (the name "Brirene").
Big bummer! They really should consider just staying...they won't have friends NEARLY as cool as you two at Harvard! :)
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, btw!!!
I can't believe we let you win 19 games. It was very painful but necessary to keep the peace.
