You can all stop worrying...
I'm still alive, and I don't have any road rash on my face.
WE DID IT! Here's proof:
Wait, does that count as proof? I guess all you can tell by that picture is that we're tired, sweaty, and have race numbers. There is a little video clip of us running that Brian took, but I'm not going to post it because it takes too dang long to upload videos here. So you'll have to take my word for it. :)
It went really well, actually. We finished in exactly 2 hours and 18 minutes. I had hoped to finish in under 2 1/2 hours, so I felt very happy about that. (You can tell how happy I am about the whole thing based on the fact that I'm already making a blog post just a few hours after the race.) There were some very windy parts of the race that weren't my favorite, but overall it was a very nice course...fairly flat...Irvine is a beautiful city. Chelise and I dug up lots of good conversation topics (we've gotten good at this over the course of our training) and distracted ourselves by talking the entire time. Brian and Eric (Chelise's husband) drove down with the kids to meet us at the finish line, and it was really fun to have a little cheering section. There were also a few others from church who ran the race, but they are speedy and ran ahead of us. It was fun to have other friends there as well.
Anyway, hooray! One big goal accomplished and it's only January 10th. Onward and upward!
Thanks, everyone, for your support!!

Wow- you are amazing! I am so inspired:)
Looks like you finally got a new running number! Hooray for you both, I am so impressed by your running time. So...you think you are up for a marathon now? Boston maybe?:)
I'm so impressed, but also jealous that other couples are enjoying your company and not us!!! Great Job.
Great job! That's so awesome. I admire anyone who can even do a 5K, cuz I can't even do that! I'm very impressed.
So now that the holidays are over, when can we get together? The weekends of the 23rd and the 30th aren't good for us, but any other weekend would work as far as I know right now. Let me know what you think!
You are my champion! Way to go!
Holy COW that ROCKS!!
good job!! I would have DIED even trying that one. That is great that you beat the goal you set too. You ROCK!
Congratulations Karene, that is awesome. You look great!
Wahoo! A great big congratulations, Karene. You truly inspire me!
W. O. W. That's all I have to say.
Oh wait, how about A.M.A.-Z.I.N.G.
That is truly an amazing accomplishment. I'm aiming for June for my very 1st ever half-marathon. Any pointers or tips are very much so welcome!
Oh~ one more thing: U-ROCK!!!
xxx
Yeah!! I am so happy for you and hope that I have a good experience this weekend as well. Your post was very good motivation! Way to go!
you are my HERO!!!
So, I just tried to call you AGAIN and the phone is busy so I checked your blog to see a report of the race. WOW!!!! That is an incredible time for your first half!!! And you don't even look tired in the picture. I am so excited for you! Oh, I love running. I think half's are the best-- long enough to feel like you accomplished a great feat but not too long that you have permanent damage afterwards :) GOOD JOB KARENE!!!!!!
Karene,
Congratulations! That is really pretty cool. Back in 2005 I ran the St. George Marathon and thought I was a very rewarding experience so I know exactly how you feel. Super tired after the race, but very accomplished. Keep going, I think your next step should be a marathon....you would love it.
