8 Things

I've been tagged by my lovely sister-in-law, Lisa!

8 things I am passionate about:
1. My husband
2. My boys
3. The gospel
4. Good books
5. Good food
6. Getting stuff done (checking off the to-do list)
7. Sleep (gotta have all eight hours!)
8. Having my life organized

8 past books I have read:

Hmm, I'll list the most recent ones...
1. The Host by Stephenie Meyer - okay, but disappointing in comparison with the Twilight books
2. Sorcery & Cecelia by Patricia Wrede - fun!
3. Uglies by Scott Westerfield - interesting
4. Simplify: A Guide to Caring for the Soul by Carolyn Rasmus - fantastic!
5. Anne of Green Gables books - love them. Can't believe I never read them before now.
6. Jane Austen books - okay, now these aren't the most recent, but I'll include them because I love them--all of them, though Emma is probably my favorite. Again, I can't believe how long it took me to discover Jane Austen, but these books are classics for a reason.
7. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens - how did I miss reading this one in high school? I LOVED it.
8. The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis - I've heard this book quoted so much that I've wanted to read it for a long time. Finally got around to it and I was not disappointed. Wow.

8 Things I often Say:
1. Really?
2. Would you rather _________ or _________? (Go Love & Logic parenting skills...)
3. Boo-MEISTER!!
4. Bad head! or Good head! (I know, I'm weird, but it's Brian's fault)
5. How are we going to pay for that?
6. Somebody's got a stinky diaper...
7. Hmm.
8. Wow.

8 Things I look for in a Friend:

I'm not sure I can list 8 things...what it really comes down to is whether I can talk to them openly, whether they can talk to me openly, whether we seem to "get" one another, and if our husbands get along well, that's a big plus.

8 Random Things about me:
1. I like Miracle Whip better than mayonnaise
2. I've recently developed a passion for cooking Indian food
3. I've worn orthotics in my shoes since I was 12 years old
4. I'm prone to motion sickness
5. I can't live without my notebook with my to-do list and all my other organizational stuff in it
6. I have completely given up on listening to music on the radio...NPR all the way, baby!
7. I love Barry Manilow
8. Brian and I (and Cole) eat beans and rice for lunch every day. I prefer black beans to pinto, but they're both good.

8 Things I want to do before I die:
1. Go back to Poland with Brian
2. Take a nice, long tour of Europe
3. Own a house (right now it seems like a far-fetched notion!)
4. See my children grown, happy, and successful with children of their own
5. Run a half-marathon (maybe a full marathon, but I'm still not sure on that one)
6. Learn to quilt
7. Go on mission(s) with my husband
8. Catch up on my scrapbooking (ha!)

8 Things I have learned this year:
1. It's against the law to have your front license plate missing on your car
2. Cole is capable of striking a match (yikes!)
3. How to blog (yipee! it's fun!)
4. Having two kids is both harder and easier than having one
5. It takes a week or more to make a Jelly Belly jellybean
6. Never leave expensive hair products within Cole's reach ($13 down the drain, that was not a good day)
7. How to do Family History Indexing
8. How to fix a leaky faucet without calling a plumber (my knowledge hasn't been tested yet, though, so who knows how well I really learned this!)

8 people I want to do the 8 things:

Anybody who's reading this and thinks it would be fun!

Hey- we play "Would you rather" at our house also. Pretty much every day- the girls LOVE it! Good luck with Weston's eye- I know it will all turn out O.K.

This was really fun to read! And I wanted to tell you that you're the 2nd or 3rd person to recommend North and South, so I finally was able to find the book thru an interlibrary loan since ours didn't carry it, and I'm anxious to read it! But I've gotten hooked on another series that you might like called Abram's Daughters. There are at least 5 in the series, the first one called The Covenant (the author's name is Beverly Lewis). They're about an Amish family in the 1940's and 50's, so it's a very interesting peek into Amish life (something I knew nothing about before) and yet it's also a romance. Very clean, very uplifting as they reference God and the Bible a ton, and a sweet romance to boot (though a frustrating one, for sure!) Just thought I'd recommend those to you if you are itching for something to read right now and had never heard of these.

And good luck with Weston's surgery! Glad the insurance company okayed it!

Ahah, you're one of those crazy Miracle Whip people...now it all makes sense! :) I didn't know you were a North and South fan.
We're praying for Weston's surgery to go well.
